In this week’s Cars On Line newsletter you’ll find dozens of listings of cars which will be offered for sale at the RKM Pinehurst Auction, May 4 in Pinehurst, North Carolina. RK Motors Charlotte is promoting this first ever event which is shaping up to be one of the finest offerings of top quality show cars in America. Among their scheduled sales is a 1931 REO Royale Convertible, a vintage motorcar so rare it rivals some of the finest concours cars available today. It is one of only 50 such cars produced, and has been restored by REO historian John Barker. They say it was a challenging restoration carried out to the highest standards.
The color is a deep plum, restored to match the vehicle shown in original Royale literature. Nowhere is the classic long hood with short deck styling more pronounced than on this Royale convertible coupe. Those proportions suggest great power and speed. Under the long hood lives a 358 ci Straight Eight engine mated to a 3-speed standard transmission. The short deck houses a rumble seat for two passengers, and it also features accessories like metal sidemount covers, a golf bag door and dual tail lights.
