1969 Camaro US Grand Prix Pace Car, Chevrolet Muscle Car

In this week’s Cars On Line newsletter you’ll find dozens of listings of cars, which will be offered for sale at the RKM Pinehurst Auction May 4 in Pinehurst, North Carolina. RK Motors Charlotte is promoting this first-ever event, which is shaping up to be one of the finest offerings of top quality show cars in America. Among their scheduled sales is a 1969 Camaro SS Pace Car. This is the actual car that paced the 1969 United States Grand Prix Formula One race on October 5, 1969 at the Watkins Glen Racing Course in Watkins Glen, New York.

Refinished in the original Dover White with black SS stripes, this documented pace car retains its original engine, transmission, rear end, and all ancillary parts. We’re told it’s a one-of-a-kind collector’s piece that recently received an extremely high quality restoration to correct pace car specifications. Under the hood is a “fire-breathing” L78 big block backed by a TH400 automatic transmission. Furthermore, it’s said to have just 44,277 original miles and is considered one of the most important 1969 Camaros ever built.
