Here is a real nice opportunity for the right collector to purchase a rare big block car that looks as good as it does burnouts. You can be sure that when the ad starts out 1970 Chevy Nova SS L78 the car is going to be a rare piece. But you probably will be surprised at the price.
The current seller referred to much of the information on the car coming from the guy who restored it. He bought the car through an internet auction. He says, “The car showed up 7 days later at midnight and after checking the car out it seems that it was just as described from the seller, except for a CE 396-350h.p. engine and a non matching trans. The car was a totally rust free un molested survivor that spent it’s entire life in the L.A. area.
“I’m familiar with the early Novas and Chevelle but had a lot to learn about the 70 models. After getting involved in some Nova sites and asking questions about my new car, it seems that there was some evidence of being an original 375 H.P. car, single 3/8 fuel line, Power Disc brakes, but what really got me going was the CBT rear axle assy (375 H.P. only). So I started collecting the parts to put the car back to as delivered condition.I found a dated correct block and built it with all new correct L-78 GM parts. I found a perfect set of #842 Aluminum Heads, manifold and carb. I thought it would be neat to have an L89 Engine in the car … even though GM never built this combo, as I found out later.”
That is the important part of the story because this L78 with the L89 aluminum heads is a combination that GM never built. Can you imagine how this car sounds revving at 6 grand?
But the best part is the price … asking $39,000. This much car for that price? Forget about it!
The seller has provided a few links in the ad copy that give you anecdotal information about the car and tons of pictures. The guy who restored the car was pretty careful to do it right. It is a gold Nova L78 with a bench seat and automatic transmission. He describes the conditioin as “mint.” In fact, he says it is “the finest L78 in the country.”
This car has been SOLD.
