KITT: Real Knight Rider TV Car

KITT 1982 Pontiac Trans Am

The Volo Auto Museum in Volo, Illinois is famous for their collection of movie cars and cars from TV series. Remember the popular TV series Knight Rider (1982-1986)? They just posted KITT, a black 1982 Pontiac Trans Am, with red scanner light glowing.

As the TV series evolved, Michael Knight was a young loner who rights all wrongs with his sidekick KITT, a black 1982 Pontiac Trans Am that talks to him. Back then it was fascinating to think of a computerized car that talks to you in its monotoned robotic voice. Today we take it for granted that our cars and cell phones will talk to us. But back then it was “space aged.”

KITT is an acronym for Knight Industries Two Thousand, the model designation for the black Trans Am in the story line of the TV series. Edmunds did a survey and has reported that KITT was #7 on the list of The 100 Greatest Movie and TV Cars of All Time.

One of the original 1982 model Pontiac Trans Ams that was used in the TV series is being offered for sale by the Volo Auto Museum in Volo, Illinos. They say it has been signed by the cast of the show. According to the description, the dash is fully functional and the red scanner light on the nose glows and makes a humming noise.

The Volo Museum is noted often in our Celebrity Car Section where we have cars that were famous or were owned by famous persons.
