Sony built only two Ecto-1’s for use in the Ghostbusters movies, and has retained ownership of both in the possibility that a third movie will eventually be made. As a high-quality, movie accurate replica, this Ecto-1 Ghostbusters Car is constructed from a 1959 Cadillac Professional series (ambulance conversion), just as the original one designed by Seven Dane was.
Volo Auto Museum of Volo, Illinois tells us that before it was converted into Ecto-1, it was used in the 1967 movie In the Heat of the Night featuring Sidney Poitier. After it was converted, it made numerous appearances at exhibitions, and later received a full restoration that included the addition of air conditioning and concealed speakers hooked up to a CD player in the glove box. Guess what song it plays!
It’s going to be heading to the online auction block with no reserve, along with many other famous and recognizable movie cars, beginning November 1st at Volocars.com.

“Everybody can relax, I found the car. Needs some suspension work and shocks. Brakes, brake pads, lining, steering box, transmission, rear-end… Only $4,800. Also new rings, mufflers, a little wiring.”
