No other car in the world has been copied more than the Shelby 427 S/C Cobra. Carroll Shelby built the big block Cobra to stay competitive with the Corvette when it was rumored that Zora Duntov would be featuring a 427 big block in the Corvette in 1965. Although a single 427 Cobra was campaigned briefly, Ford was more interested in taking on Ferrari on the Grand Prix circuit. About 260 427 Cobras were produced by Shelby but they were refitted for street use, and thus received the designation S/C for semi-competition. Of the 260 original street 427s built only 155 came with a 427 engine, the rest were fitted with a 428 ci that Shelby put in to cut costs. Of the 155 original 427 only 32 of them were built in the narrow hip configuration. Only 7 narrowed hip and only 7% of all 427s were painted in the most desirable color combination, Black/black.
Here is a very highly regarded 1965 Shelby Cobra 427 S/C which is being offered for sale by Legendary Motorcar Company. LMC tells us it is an original Narrow Hip 427, the most desirable of all Shelby Cobras. The incredible part of this Cobra’s story is that through it all, the body remained unmolested, never modified, it retained its original skin, chassis, engine and transmission.
