A rare British made 1955 Ford Consul Convertible has been listed by a St Louis, Missouri dealer. Dan Schmitt & Co have this unusual British Ford in their St Louis gallery. It is one of only 2,800 ever produced, and was never available here in the U.S. This left-hand-drive model is said to have just 9,528 actual miles, and is finished in a stunning red finish with tan-and-red leather interior and a black top. The Consul featured many innovations, including a new 1508cc 47-horsepower engine with overhead valves, and its 3-speed manual gearbox is shifted with the assist of a hydraulic clutch. The Consul was also the first British production car to use the groundbreaking MacPherson strut independent front suspension, and was also the first British Ford with modern unibody construction. Among the classic ’50s cars this one strikes us as being a true investment quality car. It would be a tantalizing addition to any top collection.
