1966 Shelby GT350H

One of the great stories coming out of the muscle car era is when Carroll Shelby persuaded Hertz Corporation to offer Shelby Mustangs in their car rental promotions for 1966. Special edition Shelby Mustangs were prepared by Shelby American for use as Hertz rental cars. For $17 dollars a day and 17 cents a mile you could rent a new 1966 Shelby GT350H Hertz edition. It turns out however that some smart racers drove them to the track where they put on a quarter-mile at a time. Only 1,001 of these special edition Hertz Shelby Mustangs were produced.

This car has been SOLD.

But today a Massachusetts collector posted one of the rarest of these, a Candy Apple red 1966 Shelby GT350H for sale. Only 50 such Candy Apple red cars were ever produced. The seller says it was purchased by Hertz in 1966 and was an actual rental unit. He says it is equipped with the original matching numbers 289 engine with 306 horsepower. It is an older restoration that is now showing some age. However he says it runs and drives great. The owner indicates that all numbers have been confirmed by the Shelby American Automobile Club (SAAC).
