Vision Gran Turismo – Digital Concept Car Made Real
Grand Turismo 6 follows up the enormously successful Grand Turismo 5 on the Playstation 3 and offers its fans one of the truest simulations available where racing physics on a gaming console are concerned. To help market the event Polyphony Digital and publisher Sony Computer Entertainment asked international auto designers to create something unique for fans of the series, a concept car worthy of their digital world, one where there are no artificial limits on what is possible. Mercedes-Benz stepped up to the challenge with the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo and had the concept car on display at Pebble Beach where friend of Cars On Line, Bob Boberg of eClassicAutos.com managed to get a closer look.
The Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo features a sensual design that invokes the image of a hunting feline and infuses elements of Mercedes Benz’ 130-year legacy. Yet it is firmly a future car, with an LED front grille that’s reminiscent of the legendary 300 SL racing car of 1952, ultra-light weight body and a tail light integrated exhaust system. The competitive racing edition employs an AMG 5.5 liter V8 Twin Turbo engine raised to 591 horsepower and a 7-speed dual clutch transmission optimized for transmission performance. The total package is said to weigh in at just 1,300 kg.
