1969 COPO Camaro 427

There are a lot of COPO Camaro tributes out there on the collector car resale market, but to find a real deal 1969 COPO Camaro 427 is pretty rare. That’s why it caught our attention this week when Gateway Classic Cars advertised one for sale at their new store in Orlando, Florida. Racers of that era used the Central Office Purchase Order form to order cars that Chevrolet would not have in their showrooms. Smokey Yunick, Roger Penske, Jim Hall, Don Yenko, Joel Rosen, Dickie Harrell and Fred Gibb all knew they could order a Camaro equipped wit an L72 427 ci V8 Turbo Jet with 425 horsepower right from the factory using the COPO ordering system.

You won’t find any luxury options on this Spartan muscle car. But you will find period equipment consistent with the muscle cars of the era, i.e. heavy duty front disk brakes, power brakes, full seat belts, heavy duty sway bars, spoiler ect. Other features of this car are AM radio, C.O.P.O. correct hub caps, medium green standard vinyl bucket interior. They all came with an M-22 Muncie Rock Crusher 4-speed which you could chirp in any gear and punch it threw all 4 gears via a 12-bolt GM rear end.

Gateway Classic Cars says the Fathom green Chevy has been beautifully restored and every attention to detail was covered right down to the factory steel wheels and Goodyear polyglas tires. This 1969 Camaro has been documented and certified by Jerry Macneish of the International Automobile Appraisers Association. Also, there is documentation from the dealer confirming the original sale.
