Here is the 1970 Chevy El Camino SS LS6 454/450 hp car/truck utility vehicle that made so much sense back in the day. If you have muscle cars, doesn’t it follow that you need muscle trucks? RK Motors Charlotte has just posted a 1970 Chevy El Camino SS LS6 454/450, one of the rarest muscle cars/trucks in American history. Click here to view dozens of photos of this magnificent and rare LS6 SS El Camino. Many collectors are searching for LS6 Chevelles when actually this 1970 Chevy El Camino SS LS6 is even more rare.
The truck that drives like a car phenomenon was a child of the ’60s and ’70s. Nobody did it better than Chevrolet whose El Camino was popular for decades. The 1970 Chevy El Camono SS LS6 is the most desirable and valuable El Camino ever produced. RK Motors tells us this one comes in its correct Shadow Gray paint with the origial 454/450 giant big block motor and the original Turbo 400 3-speed automatic transmission. They say it comes with full documentation, including an original build sheet, full ownership history, vintage photos and service receipts. They also promise restoration photos, restoration receipts, and the Certificate from the LS6 Registry. These heavy hauler El Caminos were the utility vehicle of choice back in the day. Although actual factory numbers from Chevrolet are not known, historians figure about 585 El Camino LS6 sedan pickups were produced. We do know one thing. They are more rare than LS6 Chevelles.
Here is a walk-around video done by RK Motors Charlotte:
Production numbers from Chevrolet are hard to come by for individual models. Overall numbers on vehicles produced with the LS6 high performance big block engine are known to be 4,475. Out of that number there have been rumors for years that the number of LS6 convertible Chevelles and LS6 El Caminos were very low; 17 to 20 Chevelle LS6 convertibles, and 25 El Caminos with the LS6 454 motor. These numbers don’t seem to gell with Chevelle historians who say that by estimating the percentage of total El Caminos built by the percentages historically experienced for big block production you can have a more unbiased estimate. Chevelle historian Dan Carr estimates that there were about 540 El Caminos produced with an LS6 motor. The LS6 Registry estimates the number of 1970 LS6 El Caminos at 585. No El Camino LS6 models ever came from Canada. This is based solely on U.S. production. This still makes the El Camino LS6 very rare.
The LS6 Registry has documented 13 of these El Caminos with the LS6 motor. The Shadow Gray 1970 El Camino shown here is one of them.
