Custom Pickup Surfaces in Missouri

The Evel Knievel 1961 Cadillac Series 62 Custom Pickup still exists in the collector car community today. In stunning Bright Red with a beautiful black interior and white vinyl top this special custom designed Cadillac looks as though it was built at the factory. This motorcar was custom-built for American stuntman Evel Knievel; it was one of several custom Cadillac pickup conversions which he owned throughout the years. It was commonly known that he had an affection for Cadillacs.

Owned by a couple living in Missouri, the Evel Knievel 1961 Cadillac Series 62 Custom Pickup is now being sold through Dan Schmitt & Co, a high end collector car dealership in St Louis. (Follow this link to see more photos of the unique custom Cadillac “truck.”)  They say this Series 62 Custom Pickup drives and performs well though its driver quality Bright Red paint shows a few signs of age. It is the perfect car to drive as-is or to restore. The Series 62 custom conversion has a 390/325 hp big block motor mated to a Hydromatic automatic 4-speed transmission. Being a Cadillac, it comes with options such as power steering, power brakes, power seat and tilt steering wheel. The documentation includes service records.

Dan Schmitt & Co told us this Cadillac will gain value because of its story and its provenance. “We are proud to offer this Cadillac to the value-minded buyer who understands and appreciates this piece of American cultural history,” they wrote in their ad copy. “Classic cars have proven to be among the most resilient and rewarding investments in recent years … ”

Over the years, Evel Knievel has owned an assortment of unique cars, including, by his own account, Rolls-Royces, three Ferrari spyders, a custom 1975 Cadillac Mirage DeVille (El Camino style) pickup truck, a custom 1974 Cadillac DeVille Pickup, an Eldorado Custom Station Wagon, an Aston Martin Lagonda, a white and gold Stutz convertible, Indy style race cars and about 30 motorcycles at various times.

In the book “Life of Evel,” It says he arrived in London for a special jump before the British public at Wembley Stadium. In promo shoots for the event the London press showed Knievel driving around London in his 1974 Candy Apple Red Cadillac DeVille Pickup. That was the week he crashed during a 13-bus jump live on ABC TV with Frank Gifford reporting. It was once of the most famous jumps of his career. It took him months to recover.
